EmeraldECO uses waste vegetable oil from restaurants to fuel our vehicles. This oil is a product that has served its intended purpose, and is destined for (potentially) a landfill. We have a process whereby we can turn this waste stream into useable fuel for our own use. A number of municipal fleets are advertising that they run on biodiesel – they are typically running 10 or 20% blends with petroleum diesel. By contrast, we have been running 100% home-brewed biodiesel now for over 5 years with no issues whatsoever. It takes a significant amount of time and effort to make the weekly batches of fuel, so it’s not something that everyone will aspire to do, but we feel that it is one small way that we can use our skills to lessen our impact on our planet’s limited resource pool.
